Voluma®, also known as JUVÉDERM Voluma®, is a dermal filler that contains hyaluronic acid (HA), a naturally occurring substance found in the body. As part of the aging process, our bodies make less HA which causes the skin to look dry and pale as well as a sunken structure. When injected, it replenishes the lost HA and restores a younger appearance.

What Happens During Voluma Filler Treatments?
Voluma filler treatments are injected into the targeted areas with thin needles just under the skin. With many patients, fewer injections are required to treat the skin. It has a light-weight formula containing larger particles. It easily passes through the skin so that it can bind to the tissue underneath the outer layers of the skin and often requires fewer injections to treat the area. While the injections are typically painless (the solution contains lidocaine), it is possible to have a topical numbing cream for anyone who has any anxiety with needles. Each treatment takes between 15 and 30 minutes; most patients get one to two treatments depending on the severity of volume loss. JUVÉDERM Voluma® filler is FDA approved to last up to two years.
Preparation
There is no preparation for injections; however, it is recommended patients stop taking any medications or supplements that may thin the blood about five days prior to the treatment as the injections can cause excessive bruising.
Recovery
It is very common to return to your daily schedule immediately following treatments. The main recommendation is to avoid direct sun exposure for the first few days and wear sunblock. The results are noticeable after the treatment and continue to improve over the next few weeks.
