What is Laser Skin Resurfacing?
Laser skin resurfacing is a non-invasive skin treatment that rejuvenates the skin and reduces the signs of aging, sun damage, wrinkles and other skin imperfections. With the Sciton tunable laser, skin can even be tightened as well. Using laser techniques, the top layers of skin where most of the damage is done are gently removed while new growth is stimulated through a boost in collagen production. The result is smoother skin and a healthy complexion. New technologies make it possible for laser skin resurfacing to be easy, painless and effective.
Benefits of Laser Skin Resurfacing
Laser skin resurfacing creates a smoother complexion and provides the following benefits:
- Evens out skin tone and texture
- Stimulates collagen production
- Quick in-office procedure
- Little recovery allowing patients to return to normal daily routine
- Virtually no discomfort
- Tightens skin
How Does Laser Skin Resurfacing Work?
With laser skin resurfacing, the focus is on damaged skin or areas of the skin with noticeable imperfections. When performed, a laser is broken into tiny columns of energy to penetrate the skin. When this happens, the damaged skin is removed, and new skin regenerates through a boost of collagen production that also adds volume to the treated areas. An advantage with laser skin resurfacing is that the laser targets damaged skin without affecting the surrounding healthy tissue.
Patients may receive a topical numbing cream or Lidocaine injection to reduce any discomfort along with a cream that protects the healthy tissue. They are also given protective goggles to wear for the eyes. Once this is done, the laser is used to treat the targeted areas. Laser resurfacing treatments can take up to two hours to complete.
Laser Skin Resurfacing Preparation
To prepare for laser skin resurfacing, patients may be given a topical ointment or serum to apply in the days prior to the treatment. They may also be asked to avoid any medications or supplements that thin the blood to prevent any bruising or swelling. It is preferred that patient stop all Retinoids as well prior to the procedure for a short time. Other than that, during a consultation, they are given detailed instructions about the preparation to help ensure successful treatments.
Laser Skin Resurfacing Recovery
In the first few days following laser skin resurfacing, patients may have an appearance similar to a mild or moderate sunburn. Minimal swelling may also be present in the first couple of days. As the healing process continues, there may be some slight flaking or peeling of the skin; however, certain moisturizers are helpful at keeping that to a minimum. We also use latest in silicone and petroleum based products to expedite healing. With laser skin resurfacing it is important to avoid the sun for a few weeks following the treatments to allow the skin to heal and prevent any discoloration to the new skin. The skin is very sensitive to sunlight, so sunscreen is imperative.
The positive results are typically quite noticeable following the treatment and get better over time as the collagen production boosts and new skin grows in. Depending on the severity of the imperfections, and the aggressiveness of the laser procedure, several treatments may be necessary to achieve the desired look.
How Much Does Laser Skin Resurfacing Cost in Charlotte, NC?
The cost of laser skin resurfacing is different with each patient. It takes into account the area being treated such a face, eyes, neck, and/or chest, the extent of the damage or imperfections in that area and how many treatments are necessary. We discuss the cost involved during a consultation at which time we go over our payment options. We accept cash, checks and major credit cards as well as offer financing through CareCredit®.
Is Laser Skin Resurfacing Right for Me?
Laser resurfacing is right for you if you want to correct skin imperfections or reverse signs of aging. Most skin damage is to the outer layers of the skin making this treatment effective; however, it does not treat deep wrinkles and folds or sagging skin. There are many other cosmetic treatment options for those imperfections.
