Dermaplaning in Charlotte, NC
There are several ways to exfoliate the outer layers of skin to remove dead skin cells. With dermaplaning, the treatment is gentle and gets rid of minor skin imperfections, such as mild acne scars, dry skin, and fine lines and wrinkles. People living in Charlotte and Huntersville, NC, and the surrounding communities, can treat their skin imperfections without any redness or irritation with dermaplaning from medical director Dr. Stephen Giordano at Carolina Age Management Institute.
What is Dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning is an easy, quick skin rejuvenating treatment to remove the dead outer layers of skin cells. It is often recommended for patients who have rough, dry skin or mild acne scarring and is often done prior to other cosmetic treatments to maximize the results. It is very safe and effective resulting in a glowing, refreshed complexion.
Dermaplaning increases cellular turnover so that the skin is much softer. The treatment causes the body to produce new skin cells that add volume to the treatment, rejuvenating the skin’s appearance. In addition to removing dead skin, dermaplaning also removes fine vellus hair (peach fuzz), which can trap oil and cause more skin problems to occur.
Benefits of Dermaplaning
In addition to removing dead skin cells and vellus hair, dermaplaning offers the following benefits:
- Encourages smoother skin
- Allows skin products and medications to absorb better
- Allows make up to be applied more evenly
- Delivers immediate results
- Requires no downtime
- Used on all skin types
How Does Dermaplaning Work?
The face is cleansed followed by a toner to remove excess grease or oil. Using a surgical scalpel, unwanted oil, dead skin cells, and vellus hair are scraped away from the top layer of skin. The treatment is done over each area of the face and removes the right amount of dead skin without hurting healthy layers. Other issues, such as uneven skin tones, blackheads, and acne, can also be extracted to make sure the skin is fresher and healthier. Following this, chemical peels and other treatments may be applied, as dermaplaning is very gentle to the skin. The result is a glowing complexion that appears fresher but not “done.”
This treatment does not cause any discomfort or pain and takes less than an hour to complete. For skin that requires more than one treatment, it is recommended to allow two to four weeks between each treatment.
With dermaplaning, there is no preparation. It is recommended that patients avoid direct sun or artificial tanning in the week or two prior to treatments to ensure no irritation and effective results.
With dermaplaning, there is no recovery or downtime at all – nor are there any side effects following the procedure. Patients go back to their normal daily routines immediately following the procedure.
